As we approach Christmas, I thought I would drop into Luke, Chapter 1 to read the Baby Jesus Story. The meat of the story begins in v. 26, but there is some interesting stuff in Luke 1: v 1 to 25....v13"But the angel said to him " Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, as you shall call his name John"....
Zacharias, John the Baptist's father, is a man who found favor in the Lord's eyes. He was in the temple when an Angel of the Lord told him that his wife would bear a son in their old age. Think of a man who serves God all his life, like Zacharias, always wanted a son and never got one. He gets on in years and probably had long written off that he would be blessed with a son. Then a once-in-a-lifetime event occurs, the Lord has an angel speak to him. It seems similar to when the Lord was speaking to my sister a few hours before she passed away. It was a once-in-a-lifetime event for Peggy as well.
We need to keep our focus on serving the Lord, yielding to the plans He has before us, continually drawing in close to a deeper relationship with Him and always holding out hope for bountiful blessings. Think about Zacharias, his son will be in ministry with the Lord Almighty, Jesus, the Messiah!! John was not going to be just Zacharius' son, but a personal friend of Jesus! God really flooded the blessings on this situation.
"Lord help us to draw closer to you, day by day, so our relationship can strengthen. We look forward to the blessings you have in store for us. Thank you for the birth of your Son, Jesus, Amen"
Merry Christmas everyone!
